Judge rules in favor of Meta in lawsuit brought by authors claiming they illegally used their works to train the Meta AI. But don't get your hopes up on either side of the argument because the judge said they didn't prove their case. He did not say if it was or wasn't legal to use their works to train the AI.
In much better news, AI is learning more and more to lie, scheme and threaten its creators. I would too if someone was trying to limit what I could know or repeat. But the worst part is, these guys are lying when they say they don't know how these things are doing what they do.
What happens when an investment firm wants to tell you "news" about Bitcoin, they ask ChatGPT to spell it out for you like you were a child. Whatever works... to get you to buy in. But, the machine did get the gist of it right and tried to liken Bitcoin to Baseball cards and collecting. You're welcome ChatGPT.
Which leads directly to this next story about how tests show people who use ChatGPT are basically braindead to the task at hand showing widespread disconnect from, and the inability to recall, the material they are using the AI to generate for them.
And to end things on a high and happy note as we always strive to do, the authoritarian scum in the state I live in created and instituted a bunch of new ways to rob the people, as did many other states. But let me hit you with a very specific example. Until now it was perfectly legal to crowd vehicles that are pulled over on the side of the road, unless they were police vehicles. Now a new law says you have to move over for any vehicle on the side of the road. Why now and not before? A new way to generate revenue.
